About
The Convention is being a planned by a splinter group of the Dublin Bookcrossing group (splitters!!), and can be contacted at bookcrossing2012@gmail.com. The group has been in existence since 2005, and hasn't managed to kill any members yet :)
We regularly meet in the Longstone Pub in Dublin City Centre, which we will be bringing Convention guests to visit, where we have established an OBCZ.
Some bio information on the committee members is hereby provided for your general entertainment and titillation.
| [dbuffini] Darragh - Basically runs the whole country. And this website. Made a bad job of running the country though, so got exiled to Bookcrossing for his sins, and he has been stealing other people's books and husband's ever since. His ambition is matched only by that of Emperor Norton the first. It is, without a doubt, all his fault. | |
| Claudia - Joined Bookcrossing in 2005 in her hometown of Dresden, Germany. When she moved to Dublin in 2007, she found the Dublin group and hasn't been the same since. Her first convention was Amsterdam, where she ended up (after having emphasized in committee meetings that she would under no circumstances speak at the presentation) doing the presentation with Wyando from Germany and Inkognitoh from Australia as no other Irish Bookcrosser could make it due to the Iceland volcano. In the committee, she does the odd jobs, e.g. secretary... |

| One of the few sane members of the group, Janet likes long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain. She is not into yoga. She adores French champagne. We'll say nothing about what she likes to do at midnight... | |
| [Gizmopuddy] Possibly the most outspoken (loud) member of the team, Liz is possessed ( ... seriously). We believe that the soul of Genghis Kahn (or possibly Donald Duck, it's hard to tell) has tried to inhabit her body, but due to rising negative equity got stuck on the bad end of the deal and is desperately trying to offload her to the first offer. If she wanders up to you looking glassy eyed and either on a pony brandishing a short sword, or just lisping wetly, run. | |
| Microsquid bid for the Finance job because a) she doesn't know when to keep quiet and b) she's always wanted an excuse to scream 'Show me the money!' down the phone. Likes: Space Opera and Fantasy, (although she does sometimes like the science a bit thinkier), Forensic thrillers, classic whodunnits, Austen and Bronte, and historical fiction of almost all kinds Dislikes: Military gadgetporn, bad endings - either authors ruining an ending by rushing or petering out, or others by spoiling (she's very particular!) feckless or navel gazing protagonist Guilty pleasure: Star Trek of all generations. Where you'll find her at the con: Until mid evening probably either at registration desk, or on her knees on floor running after her daughter. After that, you'll find her at the bar! |

| Jen is not only a stalwart of the organising campaign, she is also the musical director of one of Ireland's most successful female gospel choirs. She is married to a pet bear, and her son has a tendency to throw things in my beer. If he wasn't a baby I'd have to stwike him woughly and thwow him to the floor!! | |
| Helen - Joined the Dublin bookcrossing group in 2007, still hasn't found the escape route!! Her role on the committee is to keep the others in line :), and she is part of the venue/accommodation team. She is really looking forward to welcoming our Bookcrossing friends to Dublin in the spring. | |
| Marian joined Book Crossing in May 2010, and does not know what hit her. She has attended the Uncons in Swindon 2010, Nottingham 2011, and the Washington Convention in April 2011. Marian is delighted to find such a great community in Book Crossing. Marian does not really want to talk about rugby and has only a vague notion of sports. She is however, an avid film and music fan, traveller to foreign parts, and a general culture- vulture. Her favourite book is “The Stand” by Stephen King, and she likes post-apocalyptic books like “The Passage” by Justin Cronin. Marian also likes non-fiction books, and anything else really. She has discovered new hobbies since joining Book Crossing, including wine-tasting, fine dining and champagne breakfasts. On the Convention Committee, Marian is organising the book buffet and bags. No, that doesn’t mean that there will be nibbles on the book table! | |
| A paragon of nerdy knowledge, and a possessor of almost saint like patience, Sonia has steadfastly managed to hold back Darragh from pressing his suit with her husband. Luckily she doesn't know about that night in Rio. |
